In the US the two are one in the same. Wellness is becoming a more active area, but only to the extent that it can reduce the costs for group medical insurance programs. In fact, one of my early mentors, Howard Bolnick, is an actuary who has become quite active in wellness.
So many things are changing in medical insurance that I encourage actuaries to get involved in this market. We don’t know all of the answers, but we do know that the demand is great from many sectors. Medical insurance accounts for about 75% of my practice today.
