Q. What is the difference between select and ultimate mortality? Ans: The mortality which varies by age only is called ultimate mortality whereas the select mortality is the mortality which depends on age as well as the duration of the policy.
The mortality of recently joined policyholders (select mortality) is expected to be lower than that of the policyholders who have a longer duration (ultimate mortality).
