IFoA confirms Tan Suee Chieh as next President-elect

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries recently declared Tan Suee Chieh as the following President-elect.

IFoA additionally declared that Tan Suee Chieh will take up his new position in June 2019 as John Taylor moves toward becoming President, assuming control from Jules Constantinou. Tan Suee Chieh will take on the job of President in June 2020. He is based in Singapore and will be the pfirst Asian President of the IFoA.

Tan Suee Chieh graduated from the London School of Economics after which he served the Prudential for a long time of 20 years in an assortment of jobs in London, Malaysia and Singapore, including CEO of Prudential Singapore and in conclusion as Regional Managing Director of Prudential Asia. After a spell in organisation phsychology, he came back to the Insurance Industry as CEO, NTUC Income, a leading composite Insurer in Singapore, and in the end, Group CEO of the holding entity NTUC Enterprise. Tan Suee Chieh ventured down from NTUC Enterprise in 2017. He is a Council member of the IFoA alongwith he holds various Non-Executive roles in scholarly foundations and voluntary organisations.

Jules Constantinou, IFoA President stated,

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Tan Suee Chieh to the Presidential team. From the very start of his career he has been an active supporter of the actuarial profession across the globe. Suee Chieh’s expertise will be invaluable as we continue to encourage our members and all actuaries to step out of the shadows and show how our work has influence and impact across a variety of industries.

Tan Suee Chieh said:

I am very proud of my career as an actuary and the work I have done in the insurance industry. It has been hugely rewarding. I am very pleased that my peers elected me to this role. It gives me the opportunity to support the profession across geographical boundaries and its continuing efforts in reinvention to meet the needs of business and society in a sustainable manner. As we move into the future, we will continue to adapt and transform, to ensure we succeed and thrive in a digital age.

In late 2017, Tan Suee Chieh spoke about “The Future of the Actuarial Profession” where he stated:

We are at foothills amongst mountains of change which are sweeping the world. We are going through an inflexion point, a vortex of digital transformation – and this is fundamentally different from previous industrial revolutions. The actuarial profession is at special risk of being disrupted and rendered irrelevant.

We agree with his words. The world is changing and so do the Actuaries are going digital. Let us know what do you think?
